Frequently asked questions to help you have all the information you need

What should I expect to happen at appointments?

The first appointment is a 30 minute consultation so that we can meet each other, discuss what you would like to achieve with hypnotherapy, counselling, and/or coaching, make sure we're the right fit for each other, and agree a plan. Future appointments are generally 50 minutes long, with a quit smoking session and some coaching sessions being longer. We will work with whatever you have brought to therapy and do so in a collaborative way in which you have my full attention and support. Appointments tend to be fairly relaxed and it's all about making sure you are comfortable and getting the most from the process. Appointments can be in-person or online via Zoom. The choice is yours and it's ok if you want some appointments in-person and some online.

How often do I need to attend appointments?

I recommend weekly appointments, at least to begin with. Your appointments don't always need to be on the same day or at the same time. I'm happy to offer flexibility. But weekly appointments are recommended.

How many sessions will I need?

It's difficult to put a number on it because everyone is different. I see some people for one session. I see some people for years. Then there is everyone in between. For hypnotherapy, the average is around 4 - 6 session. For counselling, it can be a bit longer. The same goes for coaching. However, it really depends on what you are coming to see me for and how the therapy goes. There is no one size fits all approach. Everything is tailored to you and it's an individual process. I'm here for as long as you need to see me.

Is your clinic accessible?

Absolutely. Accessibility is a priority. My clinic is on a basement level, but can be accessed via steps or a ramp. Inside the building is fully accessible and there are a range of rooms that can be used to suit your needs. There are two bathrooms at my clinic, with one of them being an accessible.

Can you control my mind?

No. That's the simple and honest answer. I can't make you do anything that you don't want to do. I wouldn't even try to. The work that I do in hypnotherapy, counselling, and coaching is safe, ethical, and professional.

What happens when I want to stop coming for therapy?

Just tell me. It's your therapy and I will be guided by you as much as possible.

How do I book appointments?

I use the Calendly booking system. You will be sent a link after your consultation that you can use to book all your future appointments. It's an easy system to use. My calendar will appear on screen and you can simply select the date and time that works for you. You will then receive an email and text message confirmation of your appointments, plus a reminder 24 hours before appointments. Your consultation can be booked by clicking here.

Is it a confidential service?

Yes. Confidentiality is vital and what is spoken about in the therapy room goes no further, with just a couple of exceptions. Firstly, if there is a safeguarding risk then I would need to make a disclosure to the relevant authority. I would generally tell you if I needed to do that. Secondly, in the sharing of anonymous case histories with my supervisor and peers. In those circumstances, everything is anonymised so you cannot be identified. Other than that, nobody gets told anything. Not even my husband, family, or friends. Confidentiality is very important.

I've never opened up to a therapist before and don't know where to start. How do I even begin to talk about what I've been through?

Start in any way that you feel comfortable. If you're unsure or scared then I'll ask questions to help you feel comfortable with sharing. You don't have to start at the beginning. You can start with whatever you want to say and we'll take it from there.

What is your approach?

I'm a fuly trained and qualified hypnotherapist, counsellor, and coach. My counselling training was pluralistic or integrative, meaning I don't use just one form of counselling. I use whatever form of counselling is required at the time, based on your needs. There is never a one size fits all approach to my work. I'll work in whatever way you need. As for how I am as a person, I'm pretty laid back, friendly, approachable, and real. I won't give you loads of theory and technical speak (unless that's what you want). I'll always keep it real and be human.

What if my issue is too crazy, extreme, or embarrassing?

Nothing is too crazy or extreme. I'm here to help you work through whatever you bring to therapy. There's no judgement.
